Laurel Gray’s Silk Road Dance Company performs dances from North Africa, Southwest and Central Asia, and the Caucasus region. I was a soloist with this Washington, DC, company from 2000 – 2002, and had the opportunity to dance at many exciting venues. In 2001, I danced with Silk Road at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; there are a few pictures of me in this review. Laurel joined me on the faculty of Joy of Motion Dance Center (where she still teaches), and we collaborated on a few recitals. Laurel’s scholarly work has made an important contribution to Middle Eastern dance, her creativity has added tremendously to the breadth of our genre, and her ground breaking work on Lechistani cat dancing is astonishing.
